Hoping for success
Updated: 3 days ago
None of us voted for Andy Burnham to be Prime Minister, the people of Makerfield of course had this in their mind when they voted but were in fact voting for him to become their MP. However, we all need his appointment to be a success as the country faces significant headwinds that require grown up leadership and stability, if we are going to stand a chance of making any progress.
Just because the news cycle has been focused on football and Westminster, it does not mean the world became any safer overnight, we achieved food security, climate change reversed, our ecosystems were restored, health emergencies ceased, the global economic outlook began to uptick, geopolitics reset in a positive way, the jobs market and economic pressures lifted, AI normalised as a useful technology without the risks, while conflicts stopped raging.
And so regardless of how you might have voted if you had been given the opportunity, we should all be hoping for success from the appointment coming on Monday when Andy Burnham will become Prime Minister and the Government reset that follows will be expected to signal the start of the work to tackle some of the most significant and existential issues to have ever faced humanity.
The clock didn’t stop ticking just because we were all looking elsewhere.
