Watching as the world burns

Over the summer of 2026, climate change was laid bare for all to see.

We have known for decades that without real action to curb emissions, increasingly devastating consequences would follow. But even for those who previously paid little attention, it has become impossible to ignore the reality of our deteriorating climate.

Sadly, the two most significant threats humanity faces (AI and Climate Change) are of our own making and perpetuated by greed. The self-interests who have lobbied strongly to play down the risks or outright deny them altogether have been supported by a passive audience and flawed social systems.

Take the climate deniers who today espouse the need to adapt. Their views go unchallenged, despite the fact that only a few years earlier this thing they say we now need to adapt to, apparently didn't actually exist at all. Their followers faith in them goes unshaken nevertheless.

Consumption sits at the heart of the social and economic constructs we have come to rely on and is engrained in the fabric of modern culture. But this need to consume ever more is fueling the fire and we need to wake up and smell the smoke.

We may be on the verge of environmental collapse. The delicate balance, of the ecosystem which sustains all life, is shifting rapidly.

Ocean currents are slowing and may collapse or reverse, which would reshape weather patterns overnight and result in catastrophic changes triggering the deaths of millions of people. Yet, despite the warnings we continue to pour fuel on the fire and it may already be too late - given that heating of the oceans we see today is likely to be the result of carbon released into the atmosphere a decade earlier.

When you hear political forces in the UK talking about it being 'ludicrous' to try and fight the sun, just remember that climate change is not caused by the sun and that these people with their vested interests need to be challenged.

While it might feel impossible for you to affect climate change, if at an individual level more of us make sustainable choices while pushing for systemic, these actions can add up to have a big impact.
